Hair Shader Pixelated Artifacts

I’m trying to work with a very straightforward hair setup for stylized hair. When I change the shader type to Hair from Default Lit my shader ball - and subsequently my model - have this stepped pattern on it (see image below).

I double-checked geometry normals, UVs, etc. to be safe, but this even happens when I make a new scene, new material and change it to Hair.

It’s introducing these strange artifacts onto the model, when I change it to Default Lit the faceting goes away.

Any ideas?
