I am trying to upgrade from an Intel HD graphics 620 to a better GPU.
Here are my options:
RTX 3060 - 12 GB $290.74 (It’s Nvidia of course, has the best support)
7600 XT - 16 GB $366 (Has better raw performance and vram)
ARC A770 - 16 GB $354 (Has better raw performance , support , vram and price)
Hey @BatMechSuit02!
Even though 12GB of VRAM is good, I wouldn’t even recommend getting a new 3060 for gaming as of today, let alone game developing with UE 5!
Intel GPUs launched with a lot of hype, but they just keep discovering new issues with them! Who knows how will it perform with your specific CPU and while also running UE 5, there are so many unknowns.
For UE 5, I’d recommend considering more mid tier or even high end GPU’s, I’d say get at least a 4070 level card. But of course, it depends on your project’s needs. So out of these options, 7600 XT is clearly the best choice.
Note that you can also use UE 5 fine with the other cards we went over (probably, dunno about Intel), if you go with those, you don’t need to switch to UE 4 solely for the reason of using lower tier cards. You can of course, if your project won’t utilize UE 5’s featues, just wanned to say you won’t need to.
Hope this helps

Thanks a lot man, but do AMD cards have good compatibility with unreal engine?
You’re welcome
Idk who started that rumor
The reason most people including devs use Nvidia cards is because they’re better. But that doesn’t mean AMD cards are bad!
When it comes to Unreal Engine, I read somewhere that Nvidia cards’ VRAM are more efficient than AMD’s, so allegedly 8GB of VRAM in an Nvidia card is “better” than 12GB of VRAM in an AMD card, for example. Not really sure how far this extends though. See I quoted the word better there, because obviously there will be things that can be done with more VRAM that cannot be done with less. I interpreted this claim as like, they’re more performant at tasks requiring a similar amount of VRAM. Other than that, Nvidia cards have better ray tracing capabilities so that sure can be a reason to choose them for game developing. But no, AMD cards don’t have any issues with Unreal Engine, Nvidia cards just have some advantages.
