i want to be able to hookup a real electric guitar to the computer and use that as the input for my game. is there a way i’d be able to do this? or would i have to write my own inputs

If you get a hardware device that allows you to connect your guitar to a PC as a midi device, then you have the much simpler question of "how do I use a midi device as an input device?"

I don’t have any recommendations, but a quick search shows that those hardware devices exist.

And from what I know is that the game rocksmith used a chinch to usb cable to connect your real guitar to your pc or xbox

You may have to diy your connector for that.
