Graphics Card Question

Hi
I have built my custom PC for gaming and game development mainly. Right now it’s an i5-4690 + 8gb of RAM and I’m still waiting for my graphics card. I’m planning to get an R9 290. I have the choice to either go with the R9 which is the equivalent of the GTX 780 in gaming performance, or get the GTX 770.
Is it safe to go with AMD for game development (UE4, autodesk products etc…) since for me it will get me better performance ? Even with the Nvidia Gameworks integration in UE4 ?
Thanks

yes it is safe to use AMD cards with UE4, the other programs should work fine as well.

Howdy hccompany,

Here is a comparison of both cards:
R9 290: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=Radeon+R9+290
GTX 770: http://www.videocardbenchmark.net/gpu.php?gpu=GeForce+GTX+770

They are both very similar with the r9 have a slightly higher rating. Back when UE4 was in its early stages, there were a couple of issues with Radeon cards, but since then, the Engine has been optimized for all higher end cards. Either way you cant go wrong. Most issues with cards are caused by driver updates. I may lean a bit towards the GTX 770 for the price being a bit closer to the quality.

This post may clear up a bit of the confusion about cards: Nvidia GameWorks in UE4 - General Discussion - Unreal Engine Forums

Hope this helps in your Graphics card quest. Have a great day!

Thanks for the answer
