Hey guys,
I recently got an HP z800 dual xeon 72gb ram, but no graphics card. I was originally planning to assemble an RTX based system before I got this workstation. Now I’m planning to buy just a graphics card and save some money. My heart says RTX but a quick Google search says that it might bottleneck on older motherboards. Do you guys have any experience with RTX on z800 or what would be the best alternative for me if my primary use is unreal, blender and Nuke?

None whatsoever but looking at it from a purely technical angle - at what the chipset can do:
You’ll lock yourself to 8 lanes of PCI Express 2.0 which is very limiting even for something like a GeForce 2080 PCIe 3.0 x16. It will simply not get the data fast enough to spread its wings.
This workstations is designed for a very different kind of number crunching and is seriously outdated by today’s standards. I have no doubt it still has enough CPU grunt to keep things moving but UE relies quite a bit on the GPU side of things as well.
