A 460w power supply is likely enough as they tend to recommend higher than necessary so the end user doesn’t run into any issues. But if you don’t have the 2 black 6-pin connectors, and you have a computer store nearby, it might be a good idea to upgrade. It depends how much power the CPU/Motherboard is using, but more than likely 460w is enough.
You should be able to get it working though check the box for a 4-pin to 6-pin adapter as darthviper mentioned, if there are 2 of them you just need to connect it up. If not then you will need to upgrade for sure.
There shouldn’t be any other issues though replacing a power supply is usually fairly straightforward, just make sure to take a picture or two showing all of the wires plugged in so you remember to plug in all of the wires in the same places when it is replaced.
I can find you a video tutorial showing how to replace one if you’d like, there are quite a few of them on Youtube if you search for “how to replace a PC power supply”. Hope that helps
hey , if you can send a video that would help cause while looking for a graphic card replacement video they had bad quality and I hardly knew what I was up to. I called NCIX and they recommended power supply
That’s a shame you have to wait until the new one comes, hopefully it doesn’t take too long though
Here is a video for a Dell XPS 8500 (very similar to yours) it would probably be the best for you since it will look the same:
Here’s another one created by Dell for your computer nodel:
There are a few other good ones as well, but the ones above are the most relevant to your PC. Here are some others in case you need more info though:
Hope that help you out, sorry for not mentioning back when recommending the video card, most power supplies have the required cables and it didn’t occur to me at the time… Hopefully you can get it up and running soon!
ps. I responded to your AnswerHub post earlier, there is an with startup movies occurring in 4.6. Some work some don’t, but try removing the movie and re-packaging to make sure that is what is causing the crash, it does come up with an error in the log for the movie so most likely that is the.
That’s insane! I don’t want to go off topic but that’s crazy. Why is it all that expensive in Brazil? Why not buy your hardware from Ebay US or Ebay UK instead of sourcing it from your home country?
I currently run on an 850m, on yes, a laptop, and it has suited me just fine. Thus something cheap like a 560ti would be suitable for the early stages of the development process, but later on you may want to move up to a 270x, 280x, a 290 or if you’re thinking Nvidia a 770 or a 970. It depends on what your job is in the dev process. Frankly, I’ve found the most important factor to increasing development efficiency in Unreal when it comes to hardware is having a fast hard drive. means using an ssd, or a 7200 rpm spindle drive. DO NOT try to do development work on standard laptop hdds, there will be lots of wasted time.
I dev on two 560s at home, it’s more than enough to push some serious. Though it’s probably time to upgrade, as it’s been like, 3 years and I have a ridiculous gear buying problem. Not necessary though.
Re: Laptop - I worked in 4.2-4.4 on a 760m. was more than powerful enough
is there a you can ask when SLI will be supported & used by the engine? I was going to get 2 970’s until I heard its not so I guess im forced to get a 980
Awesome! Great to hear you got it all up and running
As already mentioned the temperature is the only thing you need to keep an eye on, if it is getting too hot you can manually increase the fan speed from the program that comes with the card. It should be preset to a good range, but if not it is easy to fix.
