So I’m a student of computer engineering in my second year. I’m currently searching for a laptop, which can handle UE5. So is 8gb vram nvidia GeForce 5060 rtx sufficient or I need to have a 12gb vram or a gpu like 5070 ?
8GB is the minimum, I’d go for 12. No matter how much VRAM you have, you will eventually need to restart the editor if you’re changing levels a lot, or using a lot of different textures, because the editor just eats VRAM until it’s gone ![]()
Thanks for the insight! My use case is mainly learning UE5 — working with mid-sized levels, Blueprints, and experimenting with Lumen/Nanite as I get familiar with the engine.
For that kind of workflow, would 8GB be manageable day-to-day, or would I still be hitting VRAM walls frequently enough that it becomes a real bottleneck? I’m deciding between the RTX 5060 (8GB) and stepping up to something with 12GB, so knowing how often that restart situation actually comes up for someone just learning the engine would really help.
