Hi all
I am struggling with Path Tracer rendering using my GTX 1070 8GB and have the desire to upgrade. Considering the current high prices for graphic cards due world wide chip shortage I must evaluate carefully and check for a bargain.
Checking the official Path Tracer requirements and Twinmotion System requirements it basically says "12 GB (or more) dedicated memory or card with benchmark score over 15 000".
I am currently checking for a RTX 2080 Ti 11GB (used) or RTX 3070 8GB (new); the PassMark score are (in my point of view) compatible.
I wonder what kind of experiences you can share with me and if you recommend "more ram but old" over "less ram but new".
Thanks a lot
Hello ,
Thank you for posting in the community regarding what might be a better video card option. Many times the option will depend on the type of renderings you are creating and the scene size/details as well.
The Path Tracer requires more vRAM thus having more will help but the card also needs to have a decent benchmark as mentioned. Since both cards have similar benchmarks having 11GB of vRAM would be best in certain larger scenes.
Also, don't forget to check you have all the right specs, including, RAM, and GPU for the scenes you will be doing. I do not have experience with either GPU but maybe other users will be able to provide additional feedback. I recommend you also ask in the Facebook group:

Hope this helps answer your questions.
