I am about to buy a new GPU for my PC and I was wondering if I should get a RTX 4080 or a 7900XTX.
My Specs:
Ryzen 9 7900
64 GB DDR5
GTX 1060 6GB
I would love the get me a 4090 but I do not want to deal with the power cable melting issue.

The power cable melting issue is largely fixed. If you do the research on the cards, you’ll find which ones are good now.
That being said – I’d get a 4080 (or 4080 Ti) over a 7900. NVIDIA just has the better drivers. This is especially true for Unreal Engine, where you should typically use Nvidia Studio Drivers.
Hello Jwatte,
In the end, after considering the price and the VRAM, I will go with a 7900XTX.
The reason I am going with my first ever AMD GPU is because it is more future proof with its 24GB VRAM and as the video drivers get more optimized, I am sure the 7900XTX will shine even more.
When it comes to the RTX 4080, I refuse to pay more than $1200 for a video card that was supposed to cost between 400 to 500 less and equipped with only 16GB VRAM.
I do really think that Nvidia with the 40xx gen became too greedy.
I might regret my decision, but I think it is time to give AMD the benefit of the doubt.
Is there anyone here with a 7900XTX?
How’s the 7900xtx been working?
I’m considering an AMD 7900xt over an Nvidia 4070 ti super, as it’s:
There isn’t really any info or comparisons for UE dev.
AMD drivers seemed to have some problems when UE5 came out (could be wrong about that). I imagine people are doing okay with AMD now? My 1660 super is always running out of VRAM (6gb). I feel like anything less than 16 isn’t going to be enough before long. I’ve seen a few comments about Nvidia having better drivers, but nothing specific.
I’ve always gotten Nvidia but it doesn’t seem so great right now… not sure… (I’d like to just get a 4090 and be done with it, but you know.) Curious about anyone’s thoughts.
