Godscreek Hollow - a concept

Hey everyone! Currently its only a concept, but I’m working on an open-world action RPG called Godscreek Hollow using Unreal Engine, and I’d love to get feedback and suggestions from the community. My goal is to create a dark, cinematic, fantasy experience with deep lore, engaging combat, and meaningful player choices.

Game Overview

Godscreek Hollow is set in a world consumed by a mysterious force known as “the plague”—a red-and-black malice that corrupts everything it touches. The protagonist (a 19–22-year-old male) flees into the foggy woods with his wise mentor and an older girl who is a magical creature. The girl is overtaken by the plague, forcing the protagonist and his mentor to seek refuge in a strange village—Godscreek Hollow—which seems to have appeared out of nowhere.

As the story unfolds, the protagonist learns that the village has deep ties to his past, ones he doesn’t even remember. The true villain is a personified version of the plague itself, an entity embodying destruction and decay. The protagonist’s journey will involve uncovering the truth about his past, making crucial choices, and battling formidable enemies to shape the fate of the world.

Planned Features

  • Open-World Exploration – A vast, eerie world full of hidden lore, secrets, and side quests.
  • Dynamic Combat System – A mix of melee, magic, and tactical movement with unique enemy encounters.
  • Choice-Driven Narrative – Three different possible storylines depending on key decisions.
  • Challenging Dungeons & Boss Fights – Each with unique mechanics and requiring strategic thinking.
  • A Unique In-Game Card Game – A fast-paced, 2-player combat-focused card game that rewards in-game currency.

Looking for Feedback On:

  • Combat Mechanics – What mechanics would make fights engaging and rewarding?
  • Exploration & World Design – How can I make the world feel immersive and alive?
  • Storytelling – Are there any unique ways I could tell the story that would enhance immersion?
  • RPG Systems – What progression mechanics (leveling, abilities, items) would fit best?
  • Legit Anything - Anything you can think of that would make the game better, more enjoyable, and able to become a reality!

I’d love to hear any suggestions or insights from those with experience in Unreal Engine development. What are some potential challenges I should be aware of? Any tips on optimizing an open-world game?

Looking forward to your thoughts!
