Hey my friends. I haven’t posted on unreal forums for about 15 years, since my Unreal Tournament 3 maps. Was working in AAA studios ever since, until 5 months ago when i decided to quit my job and try to go full time with my own game.
The last half a year i worked on Glitch //Storm - a fast paced online arena hacker/shooter. Would love to hear your opinions!
Greetings @genthly !
Welcome back from your UE Forums hiatus!
Wow, that is an amazing and brave decision you’ve made! I’m so impressed that you’ve decided to take a leap and work on your own game! I’m sure it was a difficult decision, but it sounds like it was the right one for you.
Glitch//Storm looks like a really cool project! I’m fascinated by the ability to hack enemies, yourself, and the environment to gain advantages. It seems like this is a quality that sets your FPS apart from others in the genre.
What was the most difficult part of transitioning from AAA studios to working on your own game? What kinds of problems have you encountered, if any? What kind of progress have you made in the past 5 months?
I’m sure Glitch//Storm involved tons of hard work, so congratulations, genthly! I look forward to hearing more!
Hey bud, happy to see you finally started to advertise your new project
Preview sure look awesome and feels good too. Great music in this demo too
Looking forward the next updates!
@Get_DOVAH_it
Thank you for the kind words! To be honest I weirdly didn’t have too many problems with the transition, I was lucky enough to put aside a little bit of money from my last job to keep me going for the last half year. I applied for epic megagrants a few weeks ago, so fingers crossed
There were a few harder moments in the development process, mainly involving animation stuff, but in these times with youtube and all it is possible to learn everything. The marketplace also has been a huge help. Also unreal engine is incredibly good. I’m doing all my modelling and animating in-engine, and the programming is blueprint only.
I’m thinking of putting out a tutorial for animating fps hands inside the engine, because it was the biggest problem for me, and could find almost nothing on this subject, it took me about 2 weeks to figure it out. So I figure there have to be other people with this problem.
Will post an update soon, because I remade the tpp animation system from scratch and also made a new main menu/hub
Cheers
Thank you @Stevelois
You were always a huge part of the unreal tournament modding community. There wouldn’t be so many polished maps out there without your help. Now you’re a great mapper yourself man! Thats why you are one of the bots in my game
