So, while the current workaround (using a FPS-ish character) is alright, it’s just a workaround. I am not a rendering guy, so I know it’s probably a lot harder and/or stressful on the PC than I would think.
Can’t we get one eye from each player spawned (which we do) while also NOT bugging out the HMD’s view (which sucks)? I mean, I wouldn’t even mind if we had to do it with half the resolution. When I want to test out certain mechanics, especially with motion controllers, I can’t do that very well with the FPS char, I mean, it’s doable, don’t get me wrong, but it’s not a 1:1 representation. Then, we can alt-tab like we usually do to a new window and the HMD view will change to the new char.
I feel like Epic made this big deal about VR last year, and then dropped it. Basic things like motion controller replication is STILL missing by default. We are at the mercy of using Plugins basically to get the “proper replication” implementation that should have been there from the start.
