Getting HUNDREDS of 'stalls' when trying to open a basic level in UE 5.4

This is relatively new. Usually UE waits until I have a more code-heavy level to start stalling when attempting to load the level, but now I basically have a landscape with no real terrain materials added and basic lighting (yes, I am using Dynamic Sky and Yes, I have Oceanography running) but still.

I know I need more RAM. I mean, 16GB isn’t bad but more can never hurt, right? That said, I don’t see any reason why I should be having these issues. Is anyone else experiencing them? Did you find a fix? Sometimes I have to wait for what it seems is forever as the stalls rack up to 200, 300, 400+

This system looks fine.

Are you getting this ‘stall’ information from the status bar ( top right ) in the editor?

I don’t think it really means anything. If you have a real problem, you will get a red error in the viewport.

Yeah - it sometimes takes forever to load the level and I can’t really get any work done.

And when I say basic landscape… I mean BASIC>

What’s the MEMORY ( rather than GPU ) section of the task manager looking like?

About to try and turn down my settings to a lower resolution to see if that helps…

It looks ok.

Is everything ok without the landscape?

I mean, it is a pretty large landscape… trying for an open-world esque feel…

Still chonks up without the landscape. I do have oceanology running as well, but I’ve turned all animations off for that… hoping that helps a little

Grrr and now

All I am doing is painting a texture on the landscape…

Ok, sound it does sound like you’re running out of VRAM. But you have enough, so I’m assuming there’s something that missing from the setup ( that I also don’t know about :joy: ).

How did you generate that landscape? Imported a heightmap?

Yeah. From Gaea. Not an overly complicated one. Basically combined a mountain with a valley and upsized it

Still painting textures/layers, but this is it so far

What do you get now when you look at GPU memory?

Also, you might want to try this

It will give you a much more accurate picture of what’s going on than windows task manager, here

So you sort by size

Hmmmm. With everything on so far:

Memory’s pretty high tho.

I really think I need to up my ram. 16, I think, just isn’t cutting it for what I want to accomplish. Might see if upping it to 64gb will help…
