Getting crashes when editing linked layers with property access

Every time I make edits to animation blueprints that contain linked layers, there is a nonzero chance that the editor will crash when I press the compile button. I press send report and restart. I go to the same animation blueprint that I was editing and just press compile over the already green checkmark ( no edits have been made. just click compile). The editor crashes. I have to duplicate the corrupted file, delete the old one, rename the duplicated file to the old corrupted one, fix up redirectors, and sometimes I have to update the cast to function which links to the parent animation blueprint. Occasionally the corruption gets so bad that I will need to open the local directory and delete some of the corrupted file just so that the project will load successfully in the editor. Any help would be nice. Here’s the report

No. It still happens.

Its been a while but if you still are having this issue I was able to fix it back then by storing the variables that was causing the crash into another variable in the blue print thread safe and call that variable instead of calling directly from property access. I am guessing the crash happens because the property access is calling the variable before it has been initialized in the other blueprint. So like this if it has not been initialized yet you get a default value in your variable.

Identify the node that is causing the problem. For me it was the nodes going into “Predict ground movement Stop Location.” Once you have selected what you want in the property access node (usually in a linked animation layer), click on the dropdown arrow and select “Call Site” Change that to either game thread or worked thread POST-EVENT Graph. I just ran into this with a slightly different version.

I had a UserWidget blueprint with a hard reference (cast) to a character blueprint that had a hard reference to the ABP_ItemAnimLayersBase file from the gameplay animation sample project.

As a result, the editor would hit that error on IDE launch or crash on a UGS launch.

I ended up just cleaning up the hard references to side step the issue but the underlying bug is still around.
