Geo-refrenced laser scans are moved?

Hello all,

I have imported laser scans which have already been registered/georeferenced etc outside of RC (we know this to be absolutely correct ) which are in OSGB 1936 EPSG 27700. The RC project is in the same coordinate system.

However once these scans are then aligned in RC the coordinates of the component model change to completely different values and the model appears to have been moved - when checking on map view the laser scans positions show as placed along the equator around the world

Anybody able to help me understand what is going on?

Laser Scan Import settings:

Registration: Exact
Georeferenced: Yes
Coordinate System: OSGB 1936 EPSG 27700
Features source: Color
Noise profile: Noise Free
Output Path: With original files

Hello,

When inputs are placed on the Equator, it usually means that the used coordinate system is not correct.
Before importing your laser scans, make sure to change the project coordinate system in the Application Settings.
Also, ensure that the laser scans are placed in the preferred coordinate system correctly before they are exported into a format usable in RealityCapture.

Maybe you can see the issue?

  1. Project Settings

  1. Import Settings

  2. Prior Pose - correct location
    (Edit: Img removed)

  3. Registration Pose - now it comes in somewhere else not even close to London where they should be
    (Edit: Img removed)

Fortunately for the project once images and GCP’s are added the registration comes out correct, but laser scans on their own give this result which we don’t understand why

What were your alignment settings? Is this also happening after application reset (Make it like a clean install)?

Alignment settings were as follows (default settings i think):

For laser scans does “camera priors for geo-referencing” need to be set to ‘yes’?

Yes, it needs to be set to Yes (which is also default setting).

Ok, that makes sense now.

I think because it’s called “cameras” it’s not clear that this also refers to laser scans

Thank you @OndrejTrhan
