Games writing in-engine for the total Unreal Newb?

Hi!
I work as a Games Writer, but I would be more useful to my team if I could work in-engine. I have been looking at video tutorials but I’m having trouble finding content that could help me learn to use Unreal specifically to my niche.

The closest I can find is tutorials relevant to general games design and level design, but nothing tailored to narrative designers and writers.

I’m starting at absolute zero - I’ve used Twine, spreadsheets and custom CMS for my entire games writing career. If there’s content out there that could help me by experimenting with inputting branching narratives into an already built test game that would be helpful.

I would appreciate any recommendations you have.

Hello, Welcome to the Forums.

There are several pre-built dialogue systems available on the Marketplace.

Free for this month (Sept 2023) there is a Quest Editor Plugin and in the permanently free collection there is a Visual Novel Framework.

At very least you could get a feel for different interfaces/data structures/implementations of these systems.

I would take a thorough look and any of these pre-built systems before deciding to implement them into your team project.
