So it’s been a little while since my last update. Progress has been good.
I attended the UE4 London meet up and had a chance to get up-front and talk about the site. Managed to get some feedback and some interesting points.
Topics covered:
Game approval process,
DRM and general game security,
Non-game content,
Adult content.
I had a chat with a couple of others about scalability, and ensuring that the site will grow gracefully.
I’ll be putting some thought in to these areas as I continue development of the site.
Another hurdle complete. I’ve finished programming the purchasing systems.
Payment initially goes to the website, then a variable percentage is sent to the game developer.
Thats all the core stuff done.
I can now start refining and making everything more user friendly.
One of the topics that needed addressing, was game approval.
I’ve wanted this to be community based, but also fast and simple for developers who have uploaded their games.
I’m creating a section of the website, where other members can review new games that need approving. After reviewing the game details, you will be asked some simple questions. The approval status will be based on your answers and then any feedback will be sent to the developer.
In the case that nobody will review your game, it will be flagged to be reviewed by admin or approved automatically after a certain amount of time.
All of this should help keep it a relatively automated system, while still having community/human input.
Gonna keep an eye on this
Great to hear!
Making good progress with the site!
Here are a few recent screen shots. I’ve pretty much finished the approval system. I’ve started working on UI and make the site a bit more pretty. Nothing too fancy for now.
This first image, just shows what a game page currently looks like.
This second image shows what the dashboard looks like for somebody who has uploaded a few games.
This final picture, shows what the approval page looks like. Essentially, if you tick every box, the approve button appears. I will likely add more check-boxes.
This is coming along quite nice. I am interested to see how it progresses!
You should when you get a chance, setup a little form for people to subscribe for email notification/major updates. This can even be done in google docs with a quick 1 entry input survey type thingy.
I’d like to hear more as its ready for upload or things are available, in case it gets buried or less noticed between now and then.
Hey Namrog, glad that you like how it’s coming along!
That’s a great idea, I’ll definitely put together something like that. I’ll drop a line here when I’ve sorted something out!
Any good ideas for the website name? I want to get that thought up as I would like to set up and transfer to whatever new host I choose for the website. Then I can start getting people signed up.
I’ve finished creating a community bug tracker so that users can submit, and check the status of technical bugs.
Magnet, marianne, pool of games (pog), impact, force of gamers(FoG), Heaven of Games (HoG), Brezelstation, ubervortex, Heaven united Gamers (HuG(!)).
You can have each of them for 75$ or all together in a cheap bundle for 4700€
Hi, I found this topic interesting, and also notice the data traffic problem you’re facing.
Have you already considered to look for a dedicated server hosting with unmetered trafficing?
I think it would be suiting for your situation.
Also, I’m planning to expand my UE4Jam March entry to a stand-alone game with a few levels (for demo) which could be offered on your site once it goes up.
Ah-ha! Thank you, what a generous offer
Hey Amsanity, yup, I’m shopping around for a decent PHP host. In terms of bandwidth, I should be fine for a while. When a user uploads an image or game file, its uploaded directly from their computer to the storage service and completely bypasses the websites server. Likewise for all downloads. That’s a big burden off of the website.
Cool! Hopefully you’ll stick around and get it up once the site is kicked off! I’m making pretty good progress.
I’m attending the next couple of UE4 meet-ups in London as a speaker to get the word out a bit more about the website.
For anyone interested, I’m heading back to London for the 2nd and 3rd UE4 meetup to present the website to other UE4 developers.
I’m holding back from the 4th one for now as a lot of people are trying to go to them and the meetups fill up very quickly. I’ll probably put myself on the waiting list a few days before.
Cool.
Good luck for your project.
Thanks Luftbauch!
This looks promising, will be keeping my eye on this =)
Thanks for the support AdamF!
Are there any mac OS X users here?
I’m wondering what compressed folder format is typical for games? Or if .zip is fine?
The accepted folder formats I’ve listed so far:
.zip, .7z, .apk, .ipa
For anyone that want’s to kept up to date, I’ve put together a quick Facebook page.
I’m going to buy the domain buy-ue4-games.com tomorrow.
I’ve now made the website publicly available, but it’s still under development.
If you have some spare games, I would appreciate if you would upload them so I can test how its all used.
If it’s secure enough to do so, I’ll make a sandbox paypal account available so you can try out the checkout system.
I just thought today, I should include support for videos for games! I might go down the link to youtube route, instead of hosting videos. I think that’s easier for everyone!
