small video :S
first time participated in game jam(failed miserably :D), theme was “enclosed space”
the idea was to make a space station horror/job simulator. basically go and clean with fire an abandoned part of the space station that was infested with some alien
I chose something big and in the end I couldn’t do everything I had planned… so at least I learned something
like:
trim ■■■■ texturing approach
modular environment
finally learned how to bake lightmaps and set up them in unreal
how to set up some music/sound cues
how to make my ai(alien) to investigate “interesting” locations or make it run away
but the alien is still buggy(his behaviour I mean) and it’s a lesson as well for me
I couldn’t make all of the mechanics and props that I wanted for level cause I hadn not enough time and skill D:
even tho I wrote to myself a “plan” for development - I couldn’t stick to it, some features required more time than I assigned them to. some things were buggy and I couldn’t find out why so I was spending extra time on trying to fix them but most of the time they were because of my inattention
also having a deadline was a good thing: less procrastination and not giving up on a project :S
as for releasing/publishing this… idk
I possibly can try to fix bugs, make a few more texture atlasses(second trim + decals/floaters)
and make level feel more alive, find a solution to fix some weird bug with spawn system at location and add more vfxs, find/make some sounds
add mechanics, add better interface(I hided it in game recording cause it’s just basic unreal progress bars + text)… but at this moment I need to focus on irl so ig I’ll be satisfied just knowing that I managed to make something in such a short amount of time, learn a few things, and submit the game to the game jam organizers
