Game demo with expiration and/or subscription model

Hi,

I’m exploring the possibilities to let people try out our games/apps in VR using a demo model with an expiration and in the future a possible subscription model. As I’m new to this area, my question is, does this exist already for Unreal or is it something more generic that is used?

The engine doesn’t provide such a system, it’s usually provided by the sales platform.

Consider Steam’s timed free weekend offer instead.
The shareware model doesn’t work anymore nowadays…

Thanks for the quick replies. I’m not looking to publish on an existing platform. I’m looking into this, because my client would like to setup a new content platform from where we can provide projects on a subscription bases. Any insights on how Epic did this with their subscription model when the engine was not free?

Yes - they did it the same way they handle marketplace content now; by controlling it through their own content platform.

Thanks Amber, I understand that, but I’m curious if they wrote their own security for the content platform or if they used a thirdparty solution for it on top of their plaform.

I believe they rolled their own.

Give the demo away for free with limited game play.

Personally subscription based apps is something I’m not willing to get involved with.

That’s a very long post considering that’s not answering the question being asked…

OK…

My point is he was asking about how to accomplish it, not why you would do it. I’m pretty sure he knows why he wants to do it, hence asking how
