Further tutorials or manuals

I have now gone over all the tutorials listed on this site and the one or two others online, and I still have several questions about some of the functions of RC.
Specifically I want to learn more about Ortho Projection, Unwrap, the smoothing tool, points Rect, Points Lasso, Camera Rect, and Camera Lasso.
Thank you for any guidance.

Hi Julie Scott

And what sort of additional information s are you looking for in particular areas, what are you missing there ?

I want to find an explanation of what the following functions do exactly: Ortho Projection, Unwrap, the smoothing tool, points Rect, Points Lasso, Camera Rect, and Camera Lasso.

Hello,
are you sure you have seen also these? Help (SW documentation/manual)
There is also more information when you click a particular tool and have the Help window displayed as well.

Yes, I have read all the materials you have in the tool itself, and watched all the tutorials, and I still have questions about several functions of RC.
I am pretty new to 3D modeling, so these terms make no sense to me, and I can find no explanation for their function: Ortho Projection, Unwrap, the smoothing tool, points Rect, Points Lasso, Camera Rect, and Camera Lasso.

I have made several models, but doing much beyond the basic workflow of alignment>reconstruction>simplify>texture>publish isn’t easy and there is little guidance anywhere on the web.
I want to understand RC fully, and especially those functions I listed above, but I can’t find any material or videos explaining them. Please direct me to where I can learn about things like this. Thanks.

Here’s a few things for you.

For Ortho Projection you can refer to wikipedia: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthographic_projection

Unwrap: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/UV_mapping#UV_unwrapping

Mesh Smoothing:
That function pretty much tries to remove the noise from the reconstructed mesh. You will also lose some of the fine details.

Hey ShadowTail, nice Avatar - almost didn’t recognize you!!!

Julie, with Points and Camera Rect and Lasso you can select Points (of the sparse point cloud) and Cameras in the 3D window by either a RECTangle or a Lasso!

Thank you. That is very helpful.

So I have some experience in Photoshop, and therefore vaguely understand how the lasso thing works, but I’m still not sure how it works here. What does it mean exactly? Again, pardon my ignorance on these terms with 3D modeling. It’d be helpful if there was an explain-like-i’m-five tutorial anywhere, but I can’t find it.

The Lasso tool in Photoshop is something completely different.

Julie, I think it would be easier if you told us what you are trying to do or what does not work.
There is no harm in asking and there are no stupid questions, but sometimes to an experienced user some things are just so self-evident, that it is hard to think beyond that.
Either cameras or tie points will be selected and highlighted in orange, either by a rectangle or a lasso.
I actually do think that in PS the lasso works similar, only that in RC you will not see a marked area like in PS but the objects will be selected immediately.
Just activate a 3D view with some tie points and some cameras and try them out - I’m sure you will figure it out!
