Hey everybody - last month we saw the theatrical release of a documentary where we used Unreal Engine 5 to produce animations. It’s a Swiss movie, so it’s currently not yet on international release, but we were already at a local film festival (Locarno Film Festival) and got lots of positive feedback. The documentary is called “The Miraculous Transformation of the Working Class Into Foreigners” and deals with the topics of immigration in Switzerland.
We used Metahumans, Motion / Performance Capture and other features on this - and this after being a Unity only place forever before.
We’ve just released a Making Of for our work on Youtube. Since this is also aimed at people not familiar with Unreal Engine, it might tell you lots of things you already know, but I think it gives a good overview over all the things we’ve integrated:
In addition, here’s a highlight reel:
Was a blast working on this and definitely learned a lot. Also were burned a bit by jumping in directly with 5.0 with our first UE & first animation production, but after we stuck with 5.1 things mostly went smooth. If you’ve got any questions, just get in touch, glad for all the help I found here for the production & know how it can help!
