Fresh Project Frame Rate Smoothing Does Not Work

Frame rate smoothing does not appear to work in my case.

I have started several fresh test projects with my fresh 4.15 installation, all of them have the framerate always maxed out at 120FPS. Smoothing is enabled by default, but it’s not smoothing anything. I believe 120FPS is the default maxfps, because if I raise the limit with the command, it will continue to run at over 130 FPS in my case, while smoothing is suppose to be enabled.

I have no projects whatsoever, I didn’t import any old projects, I have just started using UE4 after some months of preparation and watching, finishing some unrelated chores.

It did not work in 4.14 either, same circumstances.

Fixed Framerate option works OK in 4.15
But i think it didn’t work in 4.14. Using the command line to force maxfps does work in all cases.

Framerate smoothing is working as intended on my end. Perhaps you are getting a bit confused with the setting itself, so allow me to clarify. When using the Smooth Framerate option, it is going to make sure that the framerate is smoothed between the particular range you provide and helps eliminate things like screen tearing similar to how VSync works.

That explanation was unclear, it talks so much about VSYNC. I do not use VSYNC.

The case is not resolved, stop assuming things, I have asked people in the IRC chat and they agreed something’s not right.

I have talked with IRC and the people who told me differently have now realized they were not properly telling me.

Frame Rate Smoothing is not frame rate target, that’s all I needed to know, and there is a range when it kicks in. This is not immediately obvious just from the title of the feature.
