I use UEFN to teach 60 students. Frequent UEFN and Fortnite updates (1-13GB each) are causing issues with internet bandwidth and time. How can I stop these updates?
Hi Samartl,
UEFN is tightly integrated with the āliveā version of Fortnite, so the students will get an error when they attempt to āLaunch Sessionā if there is a version mismatch.
You could disable āAuto-Updateā for Fortnite in the Epic games launcher, at least that way the bandwidth would not all be slammed at once.
Also, the scheduled releases are listed on the roadmap, so that could help you anticipate the updates.
Good luck.
can you help us make our map
Thanks for the reply.
I have tried to disable āAuto-Updateā in the user settings options, but I couldnāt find the option specifically for Fortnite. Is there something Iām missing? Unfortunately, the Epic Launcher forces me to click āUpdateā before I can use Fortnite, even though I turned off āAuto-Updateā in the user settings.
Aligning with the scheduled release may be the most feasible way for now. I hope to find more suitable options in the future because updating 60 computers simultaneously is not a good option for network bandwidth.
Iām not sure I understand your question. The class focuses on basic game design implemented in Fortnite for non-coder students. Most of the content I use is from Epicās tutorials. If your map is advanced, it might be beyond my creativity.
Good luck with your game!
The Fortnite Auto Update can be changed in the settings of the Epic Games Launcher.
In the attached picture, I donāt see an option in Fortnite to specifically disable Auto Update. Am I missing?
Check the āAuto-Update Recently Used Appsā under MANAGE GAMES to see it,
Which seems to infer the settings you have there should work
Yesterday, I unchecked it, but it forced me to update before I could open Fortnite. Other games have an option to uncheck āAuto-Update,ā but Fortnite doesnāt.
Anyway, Iāll try again.
Thank you very much
@samartIT For opening Fortnite without updating - you can make a shortcut directly to the UEFN EXE located at X:\Program Files\Epic Games\Fortnite\FortniteGame\Binaries\Win64\
Itās inadvisable to do this because of the version mismatch issue I mentioned above, but there are a lot of things you can do with UEFN that donāt involve launching a session, so this might help for the context of your computer lab.
If you are having bandwidth issues, you could try setting up a LAN Cache. Since you mentioned students, I assume youāre at a school and have an IT department you can talk to about it.
