I’d love to get the books and stuff on the “Learn” tab, but again, it’s something you’re going to have to ask Epic for :stuck_out_tongue:

Di-…did you just get a badge?..Congratulations, Spotlight member. :smiley:

Haha, I just noticed that too! I have no idea what a Spotlight Member is; But I’m happy! :stuck_out_tongue:

Well you were spotlighted on a Twitch stream if I recall correctly, that could indeed be the cause of . Either way congratulations man, also…any news on book 3? :stuck_out_tongue:

Congratulation with the Spotlight member :smiley:
Could you do a blueprint-book for 2D games too?
I know you covered some of it, but I mean a whole chapter :slight_smile:

Thanks everyone!

Book #3 is coming along nicely; Just getting my head around Blueprint structs and once that’s done, Book #3 will be released!

2D Games? Interesting. I’d like to see Paper2D improved a little bit, but I have been messing around with Flipbook and planes; So I could work something up! I’d probably release it as a “Mini-tutorial” over on my site though!

As Book #3 is taking forever, I’ve been toying with the idea of letting everyone see it AS it’s being typed in it’s full un-edited glory AS I’m typing it.

These things take a LONG time (Especially seeing as Book #3 jumps into the “Who, what, where and why” of things - The workload increases literally about 120% percent!)

I’m still writing it and LordOfNightmares is editing for me (I am still yet to put the edits in!) but is something people are interested in? Getting the raw book AS I’m typing it? It’s a simple google drive link but if people are getting impatient and want the good stuff now (As it has taken like FOREVER), I don’t mind sharing the link with you all!

I’ve been toying with Paper2D in the past few days and created a really cool way to play movies via Paper2D. I might cover on the site when I get a spare moment! But yeah, a Paper2D book should come one day - Maybe when Paper2D leaves experimental!

Hey everyone,
I’m just going to be straight up.
Book #3 is taking ages. I’ve spent as much time as I can making sure everything is up-to-date, future-proof and as noobie-friendly as possible.

Writing book has really taken it out of me, mentally and physically. Don’t get wrong - It’s been fun, but the fun is starting to wear thin as other projects are currently taking priority.

As I am a person who hates being messed about, I’m just going to tell you how it is: Book #3 is depressing the hell out of me. The fact that Book #1 and #2 are being scolded on their Amazon pages depresses the hell out of me.

Now don’t get me wrong, I didn’t write the books to win any prizes and the fact I released them for free shows how committed I am to helping everyone get to terms with Unreal Engine 4, but looking back at the first two books and their shocking abysmal quality makes me almost feel ashamed of myself.

Book #3 will serve as a re-write of the first two books, which I’ve mentioned before, but it will also be in two halves.

At the moment, Book #3 clocks in at just over 300 pages. That’s a massive amount of content. I’ve sat and worked on the books, the game, my site and helping other people’s projects to the point where I feel my sanity dripping away.

I decided that Book #3 will be wrapping up soon, half-complete. You won’t be able to create a full 3D point and click adventure game from it, but you’ll have the first half. The second half will be written when I get a spare moment, but I won’t give it a time-frame or a confirmed date.

I know might annoy some of you; But in between everything I’ve done and my future plans, I really want to make sure that writing the books is just as fun as it is to read and at the moment, I’m not getting any of that fun anymore.

Just reading the Amazon comments of my old books really actually hurts. I know people tell you to not take reviews personally, but ****. I feel ashamed of myself for writing them.

Now don’t get me wrong, isn’t a “Boo-hoo, Pity me!” post. is just a post that I will be taking a break from writing the books. I just feel the time is right to. I want to focus more on helping the documentation team update the documentation and hopefully release some content on the Learn tab, but the books are becoming more of a depressive pulp of lame then a joy to write.

I know might annoy some of you, but I don’t have anything else to say apart from: I’m bored of writing them.

I am still 100% committed to helping out the community and don’t forget, you can always EMAIL ME and I’ll try to help the best I can, but for now, Book #3 (Part 1) will be the last book for a little while while I get everything else in order.

I know sounds like I’m cancelling all future books and that isn’t the case. You’ll still get all your books AND for free, but I just need a little break from all writing before I either A) tear my hair out but B) My hair tears me out.

Saying that, I hope Book #3 (Part 1) will be out in the next few days.

Thanks for supporting the books everyone, I just can’t wait for to be over so I can focus on my own projects.

You’ll all been great and I hope you’re looking forward to Book #3 (Part #1).

Sorry about the horrible post but I’d rather tell you then keep you in the dark.

Edit: I’m just cleaning up the book now, editing and writing the last few passages. is a link for whoever is DYING to see it: .google.com/document/d/1uAQEsDU4agmUhppSkXMuJ-fJcYCA0kFxbV5LHRp0WMU/edit?usp=sharing

Thanks for excellent book. I had started developing a base concept project for an adventure game, however I got stuck in a few places. I’m sure you guide will help me fix a few things. :slight_smile:

Cheers Meathead!

Indeed! Hope you enjoy! :slight_smile:

Thanks Studios … I briefly went through it and it looks pretty good. Good job and kudos to you. 8-}

Thanks! It took long enough :stuck_out_tongue: Hopefully it has enough content and everyone is happy with it!

I think 10GB of content is more than enough … not to mention the wealth of information in the book itself … anyone not happy … should go back to Unity. 8-}
