Thanks for all your work and effort for the book!
Just curious, have you tried to recover your lost data?
Tried, but failed. Got some partial stuff but not enough to get any presentable work back; So I decided to re-build bigger and better, which is actually going surprisingly well, it’s quite awesome to see how easy it is to apply all the new information and techniques you pick up every where and apply it to make even better stuff then before!
Happy New Year everyone!
I’ve been working hard on the “Creating a 3D Point and Click Adventure” free book and thus haven’t been able to update the site as often as I had hoped; But don’t worry - book will totally be worth the wait.
The book has evolved massively since conception and is by far the biggest free book I’ve written to date (Currently at 150 pages and growing strong!).
While writing the book, I decided to incorporate the previous books (As they are quickly becoming outdated) into the book by re-telling the information in new scenarios (Such as level changing .etc) and thus I’d like to inform anyone who wants physical copies of the previous two books: Once book is done, I’ll be taking the old ones off-sale to avoid inconsistencies in the previous books as the engine gets updated more and more.
means that if you want the two previous books in physical form - You have a limited time to do so! isn’t a “Give me all the moneys now! SALE!” kind of deal, as I stated, is so everybody learns the correct information and not outdated info. Also, as I’ve said, I make pretty much no profit from the books as they are priced at printing rate + a little bit extra which goes straight on the free website and gives me a tiny, tiny profit that helps me live while create all these free books and content.
I’m super-stoked to get new book out but it’ll be a little while longer.
I hope everyone else is looking forward to the book as much as I am and I hope people are looking forward to a massive book filled to the brim with information on Unreal Engine 4 (And creating 3D point and click games in Unreal Engine 4!)
Also, before I forget, I’d like to inform everyone that I read every good AND bad comment about the books and thus the new book also focuses heavily on what things do and why they do that (And also why we do things in certain ways) AS WELL as offering multiple different ways of doing things. I believe will help new people to the engine, new people to game development as well as seasoned UE4ers wanting to touch up on their engine knowledge so they can get the best performance out of the engine.
I’m super-stoked to get book out there and I hope you all have an excellent year.
Peace out!

P.S - 65,000+ views on thread? That’s crazy. I hope I’ve helped at least some of you get comfortable with Unreal Engine 4!
I look forward to reading it!
The book is going along great!
is a sneak-peak of the current WIP cover design for you all <3
I hope you’re all excited for it as much as I am!
Such a massive project O__O
You have my full respect, man.
I’m looking forward to read it… and learn XD
Thanks Byakurei,
has been a massive project. 150 pages alone and still only 1/4th the way through; Expect to be a MONSTER release!
And remember, it’s all for free! :>
Should be out within the next two weeks!
Hi Mr. ,
First of all i really thank you for your amazing tutorials moreover it’s free!!
Would you mind if i asked a question? That sounds like funny but i’m a beginner user of unreal engine. I have started #Book1 and i’m at 22 page right now. That page teach us how to convert a sequence of images using a video which is animated but i cant find a animated portal video as you used. All i know wanna is which types of animated videos could i use ?
Thanks for your attention.
Hey ,
i have a question. In the future you’ll realize other books like one, based on a specific game?
If so, would be very interesting, figure out how works an rpg
Thanks! Any animated video can be used as long as you can convert it to an image sequence (There’s plenty of tutorials online!)
Yes - Actually. That was kind of the plan from (As well a dedicated C++ / Networking books down the line). I actually already have a plan for the next book (After point and click) which is a turn-based RPG based on PS1-era RPGs (In particular Final Fantasy 7 and 8).
You’d be able to learn all the doo-dads for RPGs such as XP, Battle System .etc but you’d also learn about using pre-rendered backgrounds by projecting them on the scene.
For after that, I was going to do a poll and ask for what type of game people ask want me to do after that; But I have a horrible feeling people who vote for MMO, which at the moment can’t be done in Blueprints alone.
Hi ,
It looks like the links to your original 2 books are down
I keep toying between Unity & Unreal, trying to find a home while dipping in C++ and C#. I’ve subscribed to Digital Tutors & Pluralsight, but I’d love a read of your book as well as the video’s I now have available.
Are you any closer to the new book, or maybe can u upload the older 2?
Thanks for the effort, keep keeping us newbies happy
Regards,
.
@Rixly239 - They should be up @ http://www…co.uk
Well is actually a good idea. Jrpg and western rpg from the PS1,N64 and Saturn-Dreamcast era, are good inspiration and everyone without experience, could learn a lot from them. Actual gdr are still using
those mechanics. Perhaps, you’ll have a lot of work to do. Especially because there are a lot of different battle systems… standard turn action, atb, real time etc. And even the growing of character is different, according to the game you’re taking inspiration. will be a titanic work.
Since no one want you’ll say goodbye to your private life XD… what do you think to subdivide eventual book in three lev per difficulty? Like: basic - medium - advance
Doing , i think could be more comfortable for you, to deal with such a huge work.
1:
About pre-rendered background… i can’t wait to figure out if the technique they used, is like i guessed XD Basically i believe they put pre-rendered texture on the background elements and props. Don’t spoil me, i’ll wait XD
2:
People have to deal that unreal engine 4 is still young. If they want do mmo game entirely made with blueprint, they have to wait further upgrade. Btw the poll is a good idea
I began work already on it and boy is it a lot of work! But if it helps, it’s totally worth it!
I quit my job months ago to focus on all of ; Me and my partner spend all day every day indoors doing it. I do need a break soon (Hopefully a big break!) which will hopefully come from donations if people enjoy the content!
To be honest, I’ll most likely write one huge book but split up the favoured content onto as mini-projects as well, for those who just want the good stuff and don’t want to read the whole book (As it’ll be massive. The point and click one is rocking over 300 pages at the moment!)
You’ll have to wait and see, but it’s even simpler then that!
Thanks for your comments! Hopefully I’ll pop a poll up soon. I put a thread on , asking what games people would enjoy to see remade in Unreal Engine 4 (Mechanics-wise) to help them learn Blueprints and Unreal Engine 4 as a whole a bit better. That thread can be found : CLICK ME. (As I don’t want to spam these with irrelevant stuff!)
Understood.
All i can say now is don’t push u too hard and keep doing awesome work
Thanks I’ll try not to
Oi, ,
I'd like to thank you for all the time and effort you and your partner put into these kind of things. It's people like you, Tesla, and Peter Newton who are helping a rather large amount of people (from all ranges of experience), and continue to provide kind of experience. Seriously you're doing an awesome job and I love it! Your books are an invaluable resource for a lot of people, by all means, please continue to write them, just don't die in the process before you tell us how to make a respawn function for you. ;).
P.S. - Love the logo.
P.S.S. - Wait…would it be possible for Epic to host your E-books on the Unreal Engine marketplace? That way everyone has a way to access it, if say, they are unable to find the download link or are unable to connect to your website for example. The books are rather lite in file-size, I don’t see why they wouldn’t allow it, I mean technically your books ARE assets, sooo…( is kind of a request actually, but by no means necessary obviously.)
Thanks so much!
I think the books don’t fall into any of the Marketplace categories but you could ask if you want! I emailed him a week ago about something similar but he must be busy (Or annoyed at my emails!)
I do indeed understand that. However, to revoke access to such assets and tools would be to limit creativity, knowledge, would be the exact opposite of what the marketplace and open source nature of the Unreal Engine stands for. (I mean they already have a learn tab, at least put it there, Epic.)
I also don’t think he’d have time to respond to me, considering I bug him so much and on twitch about updating the information below the twitch player, haha
