Frame 0 of every animation getting corrupted

I’d really like to have some idea why this keeps happening to every animation in GASP. I’ve tried deleting and uninstalling everything several times, starting a completely blank new project, it doesn’t matter. It seems like once I start moving around in the level, eventually there’s some kind of freeze or stutter then the character starts blinking out during his animation and when I look at the animation that’s what it looks like. If I delete either the contact_l, contact_r, or phase curve from the animation, it’s “fixed,” and I can undo to bring back the curve but eventually it just happens again. sometimes I catch some popup when I’m in the editor that’s says something like “waiting for animations to be ready” while it loads every animation for some reason. I don’t know if that is what is “applying” this to every animation or what.

one time it happened when I was crouching and only the crouching animations were affected for awhile, but eventually it happens on all of them. it happens to both the neutral and relax animation sets even though I’ve only been using mover. it seems to not affect some of the animations that I think are not used in the chooser table I think, some of the 45 degree turns etc.

I would like to fix this so unreal is actually usable

Hi @dortmundur I’m sorry you are running into this problem let’s see if we can figure something out and get you moving forward with your project  .

  • Are you able to export the animSequence to FBX and inspect frame 0 in maya/blender?
  • when you say you “I’ve tried deleting and uninstalling everything several times, starting a completely blank new project, it doesn’t matter.” does this include the “%LOCALAPPDATA%\UnrealEngine\Common\DerivedDataCache” and the %LOCALAPPDATA%\UnrealEngine\Common\Zen, a blank project may not clear either so reinstalls may not do anything
  • What are the AnimSequence’s Bone Compression Settings and Curve Compression Settings?

Note: please make sure to backup any work or files before deleting

the animations looked fine in blender and I don’t really know about the compression settings, they should be whatever the default is in the gasp project, but deleting the cache seems to have fixed it. I have to make a new project. deleting it seemed to immediately fix the problem in the old projects, but then it came back pretty quickly. if I start a new project with the cache wiped, the animations seem to stay fine. I really wish I knew whatever it was I did that originally caused this, this was really frustrating, thank you.

I thought I had deleted the cache already attempting to fix it before but I guess I didn’t get the right folders, since there were files in there dated from when I first installed ue.
