Fortnite Ecosystem v42.00

Unreal MCP, the Model Context Protocol plugin that shipped with UE 5.8, is now in UEFN. UEFN embeds an MCP server inside the editor, so agentic coding tools such as Claude Code, Codex, or Cursor can work with you, reducing technical friction and enabling you to build faster and iterate more.

Touch input gestures via the Virtual Pointer have exited Experimental, so you can now add tap and drag gestures in your live games. Combine them with the Developer Customizable Touchscreen Controls, Tappable Custom HUD Widgets, and Platform Controls Query API from v41.00 to build out your mobile layout.

The new Experimental Ability System gives you a framework for reusable gameplay abilities in Verse. Build them with the Verse API, or with Fortnite Template Abilities, which place animations, audio, and gameplay effects on a timeline. Template Abilities are expected to exit Experimental in v42.20—start building now so you’re ready when they ship.

Also in this release: the Telekineticon physics item (Experimental), the Heatwave Harbor Prefabs and galleries, and more.
