do you mean UDK(the free version of UE3) or UE4?, I am not sure what you mean by “for modelling in UDK” as you should be modelling in a 3D app, also it looks like that uses SLI which last time I checked UE4 doesn’t use so the second GPU would be wasted.
I’ve got the 970gtx version. 3ds Max runs great. UE4 on the other hand is a bit weird. Blueprint editor is a bit laggy and running in two monitors mode runs awful. Single display is usuable.
The editor actually runs better on my old desktop with an ancient Intel quad core and gtx 470 with 4 gb ram.
As for your question, if you are absolutely sure you want/need a laptop, I personally recommend the Asus ROG line of laptops. You can find them here. They should meet your needs, as I’ve personally used them before.
I should also point out if you do go for an Msi don’t get one with a 4k screen. Locked at 48fps…doesn’t say that anywhere in the specs. Caught me out with that one the bast…200 quid extra to never get 60fps
I have an with an i7 processor, 16GB RAM (I can upgrade that later if I need to) and the 8GB GTX 980 video. I’m running with three monitors PLUS the all at once, and it’s pretty kickin’. But the real benefit is the three monitors setup. I’ve got access to everything without having to constantly juggle windows around. I highly recommend it.
that’s why I got a GT72 instead of the GT80 but the GTX 980m still runs UE4 very well, it even beats quite a few of the desktops people are using with UE4.
Fraid not it’s locked at the driver level for some reason, annoyingly it wasn’t when I got it but literally 2 days after a new Nvidia driver came out that locked it. Never been able to find out why. It’s ok when plugging it into a monitor or a decent tv you get 60fps then, just weird how the actual monitor is locked. I just never use the screen.
I was about to ask Mbublitz how come his runs decent on multiple screens when it’s pretty much the same spec as mine other than 980gtx instead of 970gtx but thinking about it it’s probably because the two monitors are running at a different refresh rates. Maybe…
