Footstep Sounds Overlap & Carries On Playing When Idle

I’m having an issue that’s been bugging me for a while now. After trying to fix it myself, it’s seemingly impossible.

The problem pertains to Footstep sounds that I’m adding to my ThirdPersonCharacter. The ‘max walk speed’ is 200 and I have added notifies in both the Walk and Run Animations. I’ve also added the (attached) script to the Animation Blueprint of the ThirdPersonCharacter.

However, when I move forward with either the analog stick on a gamepad or using WASD the footstep sounds play but they overlap (i.e. they each play twice) and keep on playing for a few seconds ever after I have stopped moving. It seems like the notifies are out of place but they seem okay to me.

Can someone please help me with this issue? It’s driving me mad.
