Footstep sounds for different material issue

I have been adding different sounding footsteps for different materials using this tutorial Simple and Elegant Unreal Engine Footstep Sound Cues - YouTube

Everything works fine with the sounds, apart from they only play for the running animation. I have set anim notifies on the walk cycle animation, and added them into the blueprint. If i dont set any sounds on the walk, but just the run, they play. If only on walk but not run, they don’t. It’s as if my character is constantly running, but i have walkspeed set to 300 and a sprint option with button press
