In the Content Examples project, the foot placement works with IK (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Inverse_kinematics) - which is pretty much how this problem is solved in any engine (whether it’s foot placement on terrain/steps or it’s having the character touch his hand to a wall if closeby etc.) It’s the solution you’re going to want to use I believe.
What problems do you have with the foot placement shown in the Content Examples?
