First Time User Impressions/Issues

First time Metahuman user, not sure if my issues and difficulties are due to my lack of knowledge or due to the software still being in development.

First off, imported meshes are rendered black, slightly lighter from other angles, but still look broken

If at this stage, Create Full Rig is pressed then the head portion becomes detached from the body

What I should have done to avoid this issue is to first click on some other tab after import, which makes a difference somehow. If that’s the case then the option to do it wrong shouldn’t be available, as it takes a while to create a rig.

This is where I really stop understanding the process, how come the mesh goes into the A pose once you click on other tabs if it doesn’t have a rig? This introduces alteration to your sculpt, which I’d rather it didn’t. Or at least have the ability to return the mesh to it’s original imported pose after rigging.

At this step I would expect some back and forth between MH and other software, being able to export, sculpt, reimport, weight paint, to fix the skinning issues, such as this

I don’t get why is it necessary to complete a bunch more stages to unlock the export option, and even then, unless I’m mistaken, will only result in a triangulated mesh?

Would also expect to have a tab with controls to pose body and face, seems pretty important to check for skinning issues. Again, not removed from easy back and forth between other software.

My apologies If I’m missing something due to inexperience and being simply a sculptor. I’ve always kept away from rigging, since it felt too technical.

I’ve been hoping Metahuman could bridge this gap and make it more friendly, but so far it feels more like walking the tightrope of “our way or the highway”.
