I’ll admit I may have some bias because my main map is a fps island and I also understand that first person is most likely not as popular as third person in fortnite. This is also based on the rows shown in Fortnite GG since I believe those align better with what is actually shown in game than the Fortnite Website.
Right now there is only one row in discover dedicated for first person. And it is described as “From the last week”. I’m not sure if this actually means you need to have updated it within the last week or not. And also is it a rolling week where it will consider islands from the last 7 days or if it is a Monday to Sunday thing. I have gotten my Island displayed there 3 times which has been nice but other than that row there is not much more. So all of the FPS islands have to fight over pretty much 25 spots.
Meanwhile, box fight maps, 1v1v1, and Red v Blue, which take up a majority of discover (I understand they are popular and that is fine but many are copy and paste and you can often see the same exact thumbnail is several different discover rows), have many categories they can appear in
-Combat (This row is stated as “More Combat, Less Building” but almost all the current islands are some form of box fight or 1v1v1 that has building)
-Build Fighting (Most FPS islands do not have building)
-Zone Wars (More 1v1v1 and box fight maps)
-TDM (Again mostly taken up by Box fights, 1v1, Red v Blue)
-Box Fights (Self Explanatory)
-1v1 (Pretty much the same as box fights, general idea)
-Bed Wars (Haven’t played but I assume there is building and its 3rd person)
-Gun Game
-Party Games (I have seen box fights, 1v1, etc in here)
First Person Maps could show up in
-First Person Islands (Self explanatory, but again, what does “From the last week mean”)
-Combat (I have really never seen a FPS map in this, usually some form of 1v1, Red v Blue, Box Fight)
-Team Deathmatch (Possible but just don’t see many)
-1 v 1 (Unlikely since its most build stuff)
First person maps could appear in New and Updated as well but I personally never have had any of my islands appear in any of the New and Updated rows so I am not sure.
I am fully aware the lack of FPS maps in discover could be due to it just not being enticing for players and not a popular mode. Which is a fair statement. But also it doesn’t feel right there is really only one row for it. Nevermind the other camera modes like top down and sidescrollers which I’m not sure where they would even appear in aside from Variety and New and Updated.
I don’t mean for this to be a complaint as much as it is just bringing attention to the matter. I think all maps should get there chance in discover but I don’t think it is doing a good job currently of representing all the types of maps there could be. I also in general don’t like the reliance on New and Updated. A lot of rows it seems like the only way to get in there is if you recently released an update or just released the map which I think is a main cause of creators spamming maps from different accounts to try to get into one of those rows.
