Find Unused Assets

Hi

I want to filter in some way all the unussed assets in the game / in a level. In filters there is a “used in level” item but I want the opposite.

How can I do this?

Thanks!

Hi ,

Unfortunately there isn’t a filter to do this in UE4. What is the reason that you need this feature?

If it is for packaging purposes, you shouldn’t need to worry about that, the editor will only package the assets that are in use in the level.

Hi ,

We haven’t heard back from you in a few days, so we are marking this post as Resolved for tracking purposes. If you still have questions about this, please feel free to post back here.

Thanks, TJ

I also have this question. The reason is because I have added/imported/migrated multiple folders and files, including blueprints, sounds and textures, many of which I actively use for my game. However, I suspect that there may be at least 500MB of files that are no longer used by the game at all. It would be nice if it’s possible to remove the unnecessary files before doing a commit to source control.
An acceptable solution would be at least warnings for unused files in some console, build log or whatever is appropriate.

Hi & dimitrov,

I just found a request already logged in our system for this exact feature. It has moved up in priority and will be investigated by our developers further.

Thank you for the feedback,

TJ

Adding a request for this for the exact same reasons as dimitrov.

A quick (?) solution might just be an easy way to remove assets with references from the list of assets to delete - its possible to add assets but I can’t find a way to remove them.

Great! I hope to see it soon ^^

I also need the ability to remove unused assets - is already implemented?

Been like a year has there been any movement on this?

Hi James,

You can check the status on our new Public Issue Tracker and vote on bug reports that you want to see fixed. Here is the report I mentioned above: JIRA UE-22153.

Any news??

Hi trozt,

We have recently had some more requests for this feature so it is still being investigated internally. Please keep in mind this isn’t a guarantee of implementation but it is gaining traction.

I think we definitely need this feature, my project is pretty big (it’s easy to forget about test assets and they just pile up in random places of the project) and i think i would be able to reduce it quite a bit with this feature  I would say it should be a right click on folder option like “Fix up redirectors in folder”, where you can do on a specific folder and it’s sub-folders, that way if we have a big project we can select the folders that probably need some cleanup without bogging down the engine too much (like doing it in the content folder).

Same here, need.

What ended it up with? is this feature there?

AFAIK, no. But they did add a Used Assets filter for whatever reason… There’s a paid unused assets filter plugin on the marketplace.

How is this STILL not implemented?
