Finally we have some QA! Now, what's next?

I’ll always give credit whenever credit is due.

I’m really glad that the FAB team finally added some QA to the Smart Assets being uploaded into FAB. I’ve uploaded 2 projects so far and had some fixes to do beforehand, so they’re actually inspecting the projects themselves.

I’m not sure if there is anything being done about the 3D models category (as they might be just simple .fbx files with textures), but it would be good to have a proper 3D asset guideline being added AND IMPLEMENTED, making everyone to use their 3D preview before submitting, with a the proper naming and textures applied to it (At the very least the Base Color, ORM and Normals Map).

For the love of god, be harsh to people uploading AI slop. A autogenerated 3D model with a decimated mesh shouldn’t share the same place as curated assets.

Continue with the job you’re doing and start to listen your community to the best of your abilities. I really want it to succeed and while it is improving bit by bit, the staff should address the main concerns of the community first instead of following strictly some sort of Roadmap applying easy stuff first.

Gives us some ETA on the stuff you’re working on, some insider info. Even if its buggy, knowing the staff is trying their best would seethe the userbase.

Cheers ~

As for 3D viewer mandatory upload - it’s okay only if the creator has an option to not showcase the model in 3D viewer on the product page. Reason is 3D previews in browsers are prone to ripping and many sellers are not willing to give thieves easy time stealing their work. I have already had my models being stolen from sketchfab and uploaded to other marketplaces.

I fully agree regarding AI models.

I’m quite sure those of us who work hard to create a model with a standard that should be expected from a market place like Fab, will very much agree with this.

I’m torn on this!

I’ve been selling on Fab since the start, and at the start I had two models that I believe had been ripped from Sketchfab (as it was the only place I’d up’d them to, and received no sales of them two) that were being sold on this very market place. I was shocked as I didn’t know about 3D models being ripped that way, and then could be sold, competing against me, the creator of the models.
I was lucky. The seller has now gone and so are my models the seller was selling. Otherwise it would have been lots of hassle doing the takedown thing, as advised by Fab staff, and the cost involved…which isn’t something I wanted to think about.

I have now deleted ALL but one my models on Sketchfab (the one I give for free) .
That’s not to believe it couldn’t happen to models on this site.
But…

1/ It’s so time consuming having to create lots of wire frame images to show off the topology I work so hard on.
2/ If a person is inclined to rip a model they probably wouldn’t buy the model anyhow.
3/ What’s stopping the model being brought and sold else where anyhow?

On point 3. I would like the site owners to help in this, because little old me doing the takedown thing with all the cost involved makes it almost something I couldn’t do.
Of course I’d also have to be able to prove I created the model…another problem to work out.

So my bottom line is that, for now, I’ll use the 3D viewer, which is now capable of showing off my model in the best way possible, to do just that.
It also gives the buyer a way to see all aspects of that model. And clearly shows it isn’t the sludge topology A.I can create.

I’m not sure how else I should look at this issue.

I kinda get your point in the asset being stolen and ripped, but I really think that this issue is bound to happen whenever you have something that is attractive enough to people and/or you’re big enough. You can find stuff from big places like Flipped Normals, Dekogon, Kitbash3d and etc all over the internet

I’ve seen one of my characters being sold on chinese marketplaces all over the place and also some of the courses I’ve created as well. Piracy is something that no one is going to win fighting against.

With that said, the staff DID said in a previous post that they are using a different tech in comparison with Sketchfab. The last time I checked, it was really troublesome to get the newer assets after a certain Sketchfab update and while it was still doable, it was such a headache that I seriously think people would think 3…4 times before going through the ordeal. I think the cache files were encrypted or something like that

I’m giving the benefit of the doubt to them. So far I haven’t heard about FAB stuff being ripped using their 3D viewer, but for sure I’m going to remove everything everywhere if there is any indication that someone’s doing it. We can’t stop it but there is no reason to make it easier.
