Hi all! below are a series of screenshots and a video of an environment that I am currently working on for the final project of my post-graduate in game-art.
For this project I have been trying to utilize everything I have learned over the last 9 months to create an environment inspired by some of the games I have enjoyed most in 2018.
(God Of War, Banner Saga, Jotun).
I’m currently at the half way mark, with another 7 weeks left to finish up and polish the environment, and I thought now would be a good time to take stock of what I have, and get some fresh eyes on it.
Ground textures were created with Photoshop + Bitmap2Material from photographs I took
Snow is a combination of 3 textures I created in Substance Designer + a displaced mesh used to create built up piles
Rocks, cliffs, logs, and 2 Hero Trees were created using photogrammetry
The smaller debris (Sticks, smaller pebbles and stones) + Fern plant are Quixel Megascan assets.
I originally intended for this project to be heavily orientated towards working on my VFX work/showreel, but have now decided to complete as much of the environment as possible first, and then create further VFX once I am certain I have the breathing room. The VFX currently in place are a 1st pass which I’m hoping to iterate on over the next few weeks.
The lighting in place currently is a good indicator of roughly how I would like it, but it is a little murkier than I am comfortable with so hopefully I will find a happy medium for that soon.
I have scaled back the size of the project 2-3 times since the beginning, but have still found that I maybe aimed to create something larger than I have time to polish, so part of this mid-way reevaluation will be looking at how I can refine the key areas, and still have the areas around it be readable.
I will try to update as soon as I have made more progress!
Thanks for having a look!
