I feel there are way too many arbitrary restrictions in UEFN that make creating an island feel restrictive. I think one of the best examples of this is the movement speed and the movement speed modifier. The cap for walking and sprinting speed is 2000cm/s. Why such an arbitrary limit on this? What if I wanted my player to move really fast just by walking? I also can’t set friction below 1; what if I wanted to do that? The mutator zone also only allows a movement modifier maximum of 2x. What is the reason for this arbitrary limit on movement speed? What if I wanted my player to move at 6000cm/s walking and I needed the modifier to be set to 3x? I simply can’t because of a random limit that was put on. If these are technical issues like performance or hit detection I get it but then put a warning that going above these speeds will cause collision issues. What if I was gonna do this for a single player map that doesn’t require accurate collisions? I also doubt this is the case because you can upgrade the sprint speed multiplier to 5x.
There are many random limitations that are set like this in the devices. Sure, I understand that most maps probably aren’t going to have crazy high movement speeds but what is the point of these random limits? I think part of creating is cranking up some of these settings and seeing if it could be made into a fun gamemode or not. Obviously, UEFN is trying to compete with Roblox and I think UEFN has an advantage of overall graphics and built-in features that don’t require as much outside modeling or anything like that. But one thing that Roblox seems to do better is the level of freedom that it gives its creators. I think this seemingly forced standardization of all the maps really hurts creator freedoms.
