I plan to move from Steam to Epic Games Store and to entirely remove Steam & Valve. Why?
Because EGS is simple, it does not have all the unnecessary features. Im talking about Profile badges, profile awards, trading cards, gems, skin marketplace, community hub (which became a place of trolls, spammers and scammers on steam).
I love how EGS is just simple: You get a launcher with basic profile feature (username and chatfunction), a store to buy games and a library. The Game description and reviews are simple and clearly laid out.
Now, i have learned about the upcoming features, containing advanced profile features, a community hub and a reworked review system, which allows player to write reviews.
While i love having a simple profile with changeable avatar, i urge you to keep all the features simple and not to exaggerate like steam did. Many of Steam features are pointless and no one cares about them.
- I dont want a comment section in my profile that get spammed with some pointless text artworks
- I dont want to have my profile cluttered with features i dont use, such as inventory like on steam
- i dont want to have my profile cluttered with some weird badges and awards. Neither me nor my visitors cares about them
- i dont want to read pointless reviews on Games, where for example a player has 700 hrs in a Game, gives it a thumbs down and write in the textbox “good” which more trolling than helpful. This is the case on Steam
- i dont want to visit a community hub that is badly moderated and a pithole for scammers and spammers
Having a community hub is more or less pointless, as most people & developers nowaday uses discord and discuss all game related stuff there. I have barely seen any developer being active in the community hub on steam.
Please keep EGS simple as it is. Yes, give it advanced features like avatar editing and visitable profiles, but keep it simple with only the necessary features. If you target the same features as Steam has, atleast give us more option to edit the profile unlike steam.
