As a seller, I had the opportunity to participate in the February sale from the 18th to the 21st, where I was able to offer discounts on several assets. Now that the event has concluded, I can honestly say that this sale was incredibly underwhelming. Despite offering some of my best-selling products at discounted prices, the sales performance was no better than on a typical day. It seems that the buyers may not have even been aware that a sale was happening.
One major issue appears to be the visibility of the sale itself. The FAB front page lacks engagement, with the sale banner easily going unnoticed. Additionally, the event was far too short, wrapping up before many customers even had the chance to see it. Overall, it feels like the marketing efforts for this sale were insufficient, Epic may have cut down a lot on FAB marketing budget and it shows.
For comparison, if you visit the Unity Asset Store, thereâs always events going on there, youâll immediately notice prominent sale events featured on the homepage. Anyone who visits can quickly spot the ongoing promotions. Unfortunately, FABâs approach is much more subtle and needs substantial enhancement in terms of marketing visibility and timing.
Speaking as someone who takes an interest in sales, the problem is what everybody has been discussing on here ever since FAB came up. Namely
The search is $hit.
Thereâs no favorites
Personally, I had a very quick look, but couldnât be bothered to sieve through the torrent of AI garbage on the site. Thousands of tons of AI swill is absolutely fine, as long as thereâs a decent search algorithm. At the moment, even simple searches donât work, let alone anything more elaborate.
If we had favorites, at least we could go straight for that list. A simple text matching search would take about half a day to make, even better if you could exclude certain combinations. So, one day, topsâŚ
I really donât know what the Epic âlogicâ is for this. Are they making the site just to keep us happy? Apparently theyâre not trying to make money with it.
Maybe not, but customers who can actually find stuff, will make money
People want a good experience, not a constant fight. There are other markets springing up all over the place ( Kitbash, Bigmediumsmall, Cosmos ), and shoppers will eventually go elsewhereâŚ
Admittedly, the first two are distance composition only, but things like Cosmos are starting to look more attractive
We should have more filters and partial wishlist next week, that should at least improve search (if sellers do proper tagging too). Let see how this goes
I couldnt even join the sale because still waiting for the address verification hah and please Abby dont say that Iâm able to say outside from eu. Our %99 of customers are from eu.
The good news is that you didnât miss out on anything by not participating. We were promised wishlists this month, hopefully this will make the next sale better.
Can you give some examples of search queries you use that show only AI? All the searches I do show human made products with the title matches being first.
Trust in FAB is practically nonexistent, and whatever faith we had in Epic was shattered by the disastrous rollout of this new marketplace. The user experience has been nothing short of terrible, and letâs not even start on the questionable quality of most of the assets available. The Unreal Engine Marketplace mightâve only contributed a tiny fractionâmaybe 0.1%âto Epicâs revenue. From a business perspective, it seems more like a liability than an asset.
Enter FAB: a marketplace thatâs become a goldmine for scammers looking to make a quick buckâat the expense of legitimate, hardworking creators. Epic made this problem worse by removing two critical safety nets from the old marketplace: questions and reviews. These werenât just features; they were the communityâs best defense. If someone uploaded pirated or subpar content, it didnât take long for buyers to call it out. New customers had a layer of protection when deciding where to spend their money.
But Epicâs push for âmore contentâ came at a huge costâreal creators were shoved aside to make room for quantity over quality. Now, the marketplace is flooded with thousands of worthless, and sometimes stolen, assets. Worse still, these low-quality or illegal items are mixed in with legitimate products, making it nearly impossible to spot the difference. This isnât just negligenceâit borders on malicious behavior and, in some countries, could even be considered illegal.
There was a time when buying from the Unreal Marketplace was simpleâyou didnât think twice because the quality was dependable. Now? Youâre left wondering if that $49.99 asset you just bought is stolen trash. If itâs a flawed model from a genuine creator, thatâs forgivable. But getting scammed by a thief? Thatâs not just a legal riskâit damages the reputation of the creator, the buyer, and any client relying on that asset. Itâs a lose-lose for anyone trying to do honest work.
And thatâs why sales are down. For every genuine artist on FAB, there are ten scammers ready to take advantage. It only takes one bad experience to lose trust in a platform forever. Anyone whoâs tried dealing with digital refunds knowsâitâs easier not to buy at all than to fight to get your money back
Also: sales was too short.
In past they usually ended on monday, why the hell they make this end on friday?
Results: purchased nothing.
Neither i ll purchase till the next eindow sale due to the smamefull prices doubled from old marketplace to fab
The infinite scroll is the problem. I couldnât finish scrolling the sale list so I leave it to continue the next day. The tab went to sleep and and I come back, it refreshes. It happens a few times so I couldnât be bother to scroll. The old marketplace did by page, and I can continue to last seen item.
Personally, I used to buy new products on the weekly and several during sales. Always looking at my Favorites to see if something is on sale and maybe finally decide to get it [that push over the line I needed to convince myself!]. Now, you trog through AI created content [labeled or not -we can all tell AI generated for the most part. Esp 2d.]
I had no idea about the sale mentioned right now because I donât go to FABâs market place as often as I did Epic. ITâs too ⌠cumbersome. And the Launcher? Crashes everytime I go into the vault Library, so donât really look at it much either. And Favorites? Non-existent.
I do hope Epic/FAB devâs do fix this up but UEFN is far more of a priority and AI content is very used, and they clearly donât care about any legal ramifications or worries. They just wanna play fortnite.
