Feature Request: Verse Leaderboards

Verse leaderboards was without a doubt the most important thing on the roadmap for the platform. I would rather have verse leaderboards than any other thing on the roadmap, skill based matchmaking included (which you know how important that is to us). I cannot stress enough how much of a priority this should be.

I was actually flabbergasted it was removed from the roadmap. I can almost guarantee almost every single island would use live leaderboards no matter the genre. Murder Mystery, Piece Control 2v2, Steal a Brainrot, Minigame box pvp, tilted zonewars. All of these games would use live leaderboards and they would be a great addition to these games for retention and playtime. MANY of the other things on the roadmap are super situational and are only needed for certain games.

Just think about how powerful it would be for new experiences to get players to give their game more of a fair shot too. Let’s say you join a new experience and the #1 spot on the leaderboard globally is only 10 wins. A player might see that and determine that they could get the #1 spot if they played an extra 10-20 minutes to get there. In that extra time they may come to find they really enjoy playing the game. Then the next time they log in, they might go back to that experience to see if they still have their #1 spot and to try and defend it. Or they beat a deathrun in 20 minutes and see the world record is 18 minutes so instead of going back to the lobby they try again to beat it faster.

There’s so many good use cases for live leaderboards. Just have a look at roblox. almost every experience utilizes live leaderboards. I came accross a tweet about a game that had someone using alternate accounts and bots to take up multiple spots on the leaderboard. Some of the responses included “Its killing the game. Its not even worth it to play anymore.” and “WOW NO WONDER WHY THE GAME IS RUINED BECAUSE BOTS WANNA RUIN THE LB RACE BY CHEATING ::skull::” obviously this is an example of something that can go wrong with leaderboards but it shows how important they are to the games.

I was really looking forward to Verse Leaderboards, especially since it was supposed to come in Q3. Now it’s completely gone from the roadmap without any explanation.

Is it still being worked on, or has it been cancelled? A lot of creators have been waiting for this feature, so it would be nice to get some clarification from Epic.
