With the new held_item_template in UEFN 42.30, custom Held Items are becoming a very useful way to create Fortnite-native collectible and objective items.
One limitation we encountered is the native pickup/interact prompt.
The fort_item_pickup_interactable_component allows us to define the interaction message, but currently does not expose supported text styling such as color, rarity styling, or rich-text formatting.
For example, a custom Mythic item can correctly use Mythic rarity presentation elsewhere in the Fortnite inventory/HUD, but its world interaction prompt is still displayed using the standard grey treatment.
FEATURE REQUEST:
Please consider exposing supported styling for the native pickup/interact prompt used by Custom Weapons, Custom Items, and Held Items.
Ideally this could include:
-
rarity-aware prompt coloring;
-
explicit text color/style selection;
-
or supported rich-text formatting for the localized interaction message.
It would be especially useful if this remained part of the native Fortnite interaction system rather than requiring creators to replace the pickup prompt with custom HUD/UI.
The goal is not to replace Fortnite’s normal interaction behavior—we would specifically like to keep the native prompt and simply allow custom items to communicate their rarity and identity with the same level of presentation available to native Fortnite loot.
Tested in UEFN 42.30 using held_item_template / fort_item_pickup_interactable_component.
Thank you for continuing to expand Custom Items and Held Items.
