Feature Request: Auto Detect and Restore Game Files After Launcher Relocate, Reinstall or Device Change

Feature Request to Epic Games Developers

• Problem
When users relocate their installation folder, reinstall the launcher or switch to a new device, the Epic Games Launcher does not recognize existing local game files. Every title shows as missing and triggers a full redownload even though the files are already present.

• Proposed Solution
Add a built-in feature in the launcher that, upon startup or when initiating an install:

  1. Scans configured library paths or lets users point to custom directories
  2. Automatically detects existing game files
  3. Verifies file integrity
  4. Marks the game as installed without downloading unchanged data

• Benefits

  1. Saves players hours of redundant download time
  2. Reduces bandwidth consumption for both users and Epic’s servers
  3. Delivers a smoother, more professional launcher experience

Thank you for considering this enhancement. Implementing auto-detect and restore would make device changes, reinstalls and folder relocations seamless for everyone.
