fbx round trip to maya

so a friend showed me that unity had the ability to round trip files between unity and maya for it’s cinematic pipe

is there an easy way say though, datasmith or something to round trip scenes back and forth from maya to a sequencer?
or does anyone know if there’s something in the works that I may not have come across?

I saw this link, which I’ve yet to watch.

but I guess it’s something that needs to be built in-house and not available out of box?
