FBX import missing animation on all children bones

I have a simple skeleton with animation. When imported to unreal the only animation that gets imported is the root joint animation of the skeleton. There is no animation on the child joints/bones. No, this skeleton does not use ik. It is animated with FK. Using Unreal 5.2

Okay. So I’m not able to import any animations in their entirety right now to 5.2.

I tried migrating the animated assets from 4.7 to 5.2… Didn’t work. Opening the animations causes the 5.2 to freeze.

I tried taking a 4.7 project and converting it to 5.2. It didn’t work. Trying to load the animations on the skeleton freezes 5.2.

Strangely enough though. Animations that were migrated from 4.7 to 5 then to 5.1 then to 5.2 all work fine. But skipping any of those steps and the animations are broken.

So what is going on?

Be mindful of the version of FBX that you are using. Older versions may not play nice with unreal. And unofficial FBX exporters have their own problems.

If you are using Blender my exporter (locked in time to its release date) shuld still work and provide curve value options you dont normally get.

Yes its old. Yes the settings you set in it do matter still.
The engine import settings also matter. You want to match the FBX versions to one another.

If you try the plugin and it doesn’t work for whatever reason, do let me know.

I have 5.2 installed mostly as a joke since it is a joke at this point, but the point is I could test it easily if I’m made aware that I should.
