FBX from Maya LT: fails with Texture and Material enabled / works without

Hi,

I’m having trouble importing a model from Maya LT.

The FBX I export from Maya does not import for hours (literally!) if I check “Import Materials” and/or “Import Textures”.

It imports within a minute if I do not check these options.

I tried various FBX formats (2015/2014/2013) and I tried with “Embed Media” and without.

Does anyone have the same issue? Or had this issue and knows what is wrong?

Thank you,

Ben

What’s the texture resolution and which file type do you use for the texture? -> e.g when you have a really large texture, it could take a while till it gets imported
The easiest way is to just import the texture manually + create a material, because you will always have to make any changed in the material as the UE4 just creates a basic one for you

, the problem is, this model has a sixteen different materials applied and I’d just like to know which texture goes where. And there seems to be something wrong with either Maya or Unreal and I’d like to know what
the textures are 4K.

edit:
model imports in under a minute
textures import in half a minute
if I check the option in the import dialog, it literally takes hours to import…

Please, anyone has ANY idea how I can find out what is causing the import problem?

Why don’t you import them separately and apply the texture between Unreal?

Then you could just disable “import textures” but enable “import materials” -> now from the name of your material slot (as long as you have assigned a name to it in your 3d program) you can see which texture you have to add
