FBX export of meshes from UE 4.19 & 4.20 changes materials to 'WorldGridMaterial'

I would like to export an unreal scene to another application, but durnig the export I loose original materials, they are replaced with ‘WorldGridMaterial’.
I tried several fbx exporter versions, no joy.

Any suggestions? Is it a bug?

Seen someone post about mixamo characters getting a prefix when importing to 4.20, maybe sort of the same thing is happening?

i found the reason: If the materials are assigned in the viewport, it happens.
