Unreal Studio is becoming a great tool for visualization and animation. I can import a amazing list of formats in a very good way. Actually its Much better then expected. The biggest problem for me to start using Studio in a professional way is the way it handles materials and especially material instances on fbx export. Lets say I get a CAD model from a customer and import it to the studio. I would want to be able to edit the model in a external 3d package. Unreal studio makes all materials to material instances on import and that means that I loose all material references in my model on export. That makes the workflow almost impossible on big models.
Is there a quick fix for this problem
I think we will need to support better round-tripping workflows with FBX or something else. We don’t have a timeline for the work yet.
