For some reason, I can import the medium poly mesh as an LoD1 for the low poly mesh, but when I try to do the reverse, it says “Failed to Import mesh for LoD1!”, with no error messaging available.
Since UE4 forces you to use the highest poly mesh as LOD0, I’m stuck with skeletal meshes that can only go HIGHER poly as I get further away.
Found a temporary work around for this… but I’m still wondering why this is happening.
Basically, in Maya LT, I usually duplicate my original mesh and smooth for several higher poly meshes in the same file. For some reason, the duplication process is messing up the exported mesh causing the error.
My temporary work around is to make a copy of the file for every LoD I need and smoothing the original mesh in each file.
It’d be easier for me to keep all the meshes in one Maya LT file, so I’m still curious why this is happening as I do not remember this happening in 4.10.
