Fail to load Twinmotion 2021.1 into Unreal 4.26.1 using Datasmith

So I’ve tried importing using the Datasmith Unreal plugin (Beta 2) multiple different files saved in Twinmotion 2021.1 and none import and I get the fail to load dialog immediately, with the Load Error- Unsupported file format verision unkown. I’ve tried the same file importing from Twinmotion 2020.2 and it works! Anyone else having this issue? I’m using Unreal on a Windows machine and Twinmotion on a Mac…

Tried the same file saved on Windows machine running Twinmotion 2021.1 and got the same error using the latest Twinmotion Importer Plugin (Beta 2)

Failed to import ‘…/…/…/…/…/…/Users/jesse/Dropbox/22 Architecture/Joshua Tree/drawings/JT_2021.1-1_windows.tm’. Failed to create asset ‘JT_2021_1-1_windows’.
Please see Output Log for details.

I am having the very same issue all the TM files created with TM2021.1 have the same issue and report the same error. Failed to import unsupported vile format version unknown. I can no longer set up my scene and then import to UE4. I am using windows 10 pro with UE4.26

I finally figured this out. There are three plugins available for twin motion in unreal engine. You must only use the two that come from the market place, the data smith importer and the TwinMotion content one. The third one that appears as an option in plugins list do not use! It’s called TwinMotion common base or something like that, if you enable this that project will not be able to load twin motion files and have an unknown file format error. Just to be sure I uninstalled the other two plugins by going to the epic games launcher and under each engine icon it’s says “installed plugins” I clicked on that and uninstalled them then went to the marketplace and searched for TwinMotion and reinstalled them to make sure my plugins were not corrupt. The third odd plugin does not exist in the marketplace so not sure who made it but if you avoid using it TwinMotion 2021 files load in fine

Same problem here. 2021.1 won’t import, but when I save the file in 2020.2, no problems.

I just submitted my files and this post to the dev team via the link in the documentation. I encourage everyone else on here to do so as well.

This is the link from the documentation:

Hi everyone !

As a reminder, please use ONLY the Marketplace plugins from now on, as the BOX beta is now deprecated.

The only plugins you should enable in your projects are the Datasmith Twinmotion Importer and Twinmotion Content from the Marketplace.

Cheers !

Hello there, not sure if this is the right place to ask, but I’m looking for a previous version Datasmith Twinmotion importer and Twinmotion content plugins for UE 4.26. The ones I find in the marketplace are only compatible for UE 4.27 but I really need to import my file into 4.26 for this project. Can I still download the previous plugins somewhere? Or any tips for a workaround? If I was able to open a 4.27 project in 4.26 this would also solve the matter.

The datasmit gives an error: unsupported format, when importing a file with a demo scene (any others too) with the extension.tm Unreal 5.1.1 Twinmotion 2023.1. Plugins with content and importer from the marketplace. What should I do so that the files are imported correctly? Or is it the same for everyone on these versions?

i’m having the same issue, the Twinmotion importer is not support Twinmotion 2023.1 yet. u can see it only supports 2022.2.2

what my workaround is is export the Twinmotion to Datasmith and then import that datasmith to UE5

hope the Epic team wil update the plugin to support Twinmotion 2023.1

@MisterSmile84 gave some pointers for importing TM in UE.
which plugin to use if TM 2022 or TM 2023
