Fading environment objects similar to Diablo?

Are there any in-depth tutorials that explain how to get a similar effect to the fading environment objects seen in Diablo? Currently, I found one, but that one isn’t that in-depth as I’d like.

O_o It shows **every **node that was used in system and the process described step by step, what exactly is not enough in-depth?

Every node was basically thrown at you and the poster didn’t really explain where to go, what to search for, etc. When I say in-depth, I mean every image is explained with each step listed.
